Exploring Book Arts – Flipping Stars, Concertinas, and Lots of Extras!
When: Friday, May 16, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Where: The Workshops of G.B. Davis (Santa’s Workshop)
92 South 9th Street, Noblesville, Indiana
Join Geoff Davis—a nationally recognized book artist and educator—for a creative and inspiring afternoon exploring the world of Book Arts. Designed especially for paper-craft enthusiasts and experienced scrapbookers, this hands-on class will introduce you to exciting book structures that unfold, flip, and reveal in surprising ways.
You'll start by constructing a simple pamphlet to set the creative tone and pace. From there, you'll dive into the magical world of Star Books. These beautiful, hardcover books feature carefully folded pages arranged to unfold into spectacular stars. You'll create two different star-book variations using similar techniques, but each will open uniquely—revealing delightful surprises with every flip.
Next, Geoff will guide you through constructing a traditional accordion book—but with creative extras! Learn how to add hidden pockets, envelopes, and even "books-within-books" to make your creations both beautiful and functional.
To celebrate Noblesville’s beloved Peony Festival, Geoff will provide specialty peony-themed paper, hand-printed on his antique letterpresses, along with unique festival-inspired scraps. These materials are perfect for incorporating festival memories, photographs, notes, and mementos into your handcrafted books.
All tools, specialty papers, materials, and water will be provided. Just bring your creativity, a magazine (to be repurposed into your projects), and a desire to connect and create within the charming atmosphere of "Santa’s Workshop," familiar to many of you from holiday visits.
Spaces are limited—reserve your spot today and create beautiful, one-of-a-kind books that capture your Peony Festival memories!
